October 2007

Boy I feel good!

My name is Ludvig and I'm so thankful for the medical treatment I received after I was brought to King County Animal Control.

I was lost and wandering the streets, well... I was limping because of an old injury to my leg. The Vet staff asked Friends of King Country Animal Control to help financially to get me fixed up. I had some x-rays taken and doctors decided to put a splint and cast on my leg.

I'm feeling so much better and loved. I'm in a caring home and loving every minute!

Cheers,
Ludvig

The Vet staff at the Shelter called it "cherry-eye". Thanks to donations made to Friends of KCAC I was able to get surgery to fix my eye.  Now I'm healed and I was adopted to a loving family.

Jake

August 12, 2006

Hi my name is Jake and I have a leg that just isn't working like it should. The medical staff here said I will need some medical attention so that I will be able to run, jump and play like I once did. I was told not to worry because my new friend Buddy said he was going to donate his left over donations to help get me started. He said there are many caring individuals who care about us and with the help of Friends of KCAC they will get me taken care of. I know I don't know all of you but I want to tell you now that I am thankful that you are there to care for us.

Love- Jake

August 12, 2006 Update

Thank you for your well wishes, caring thoughts and prayers for my recovery. On August 11th I was granted approval to be placed into adoption at KCAS in Kent, so that I might start my life over again in a caring home. As you can see from the look on my face I am very happy now and even more happy to hear that the suspects who hurt me are now in the custody of the Auburn police. Thank you for being there for me and for helping Friends of KCAC pay for my medical expenses. They were able to pay for my bill in full and had a little left over to help my new friend Jake. But, this is my story not Jake's so you will have to go to his picture to learn more about him!

Thank you!
Buddy

August 2, 2006 Update

Buddy has been transferred from the care of the veterinary hospital in Burien to the care of the King County Animal Services Veterinary Staff. Julie White,President of Friends of KCAC visited Buddy today and was relieved to see him wag his tail when she call his name. "He has gone through so much and yet he still trusted me to enter his run and pet him" said Julie President of Friends of KCAC, "We are glad that we were contacted so we could help save his life".

July 29, 2006

King County Animal Services and the Auburn Police Department are investigating a possible case of animal cruelty. A couple was seen beating an adult Labrador-mix dog with a baseball bat in the Auburn area. After leaving the dog for dead, the suspects fled the scene and witnesses called King County Animal Services.

Responding immediately to the call, King County Animal Services and the Auburn Police Department took the injured dog to the Five Corners Veterinarian Clinic in Burien. The dog suffered multiple skull fractures and swelling to the brain.

“The dog is under close observation and is resting comfortably with medication,” said Dr. Margaret Hammond. “While there is a possibility of brain damage and even death, we’re hopeful the dog will show some improvement over the weekend.”

Witnesses described the suspects as a transient couple and allege the male suspect beat the dog on the head with the bat until he became tired. Reportedly, the female took the bat and continued to beat the helpless dog. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 27 at 41st SE, just east of D St. SE. in Auburn.

Ultimately the suspects could be charged with a Class C Felony for animal cruelty.

Howard

December 2005

Howard is a happy and energetic pup. He was adopted from the KCAC by someone who had his friends baby-sit him while he moved from one residence to another. Supposedly during his stay with his dad's  friends Howard fell down three stairs and severely damaged his leg. It was a hefty vet estimate to fix his leg so Howard's new dad decided to return Howard to KCAC instead of take care of him.

Howard's leg damage was so severe that it needed to be amputated rather than repaired.

Howard is looking for a loving and permanent home.

If you would like to donate towards Howard's surgery, click here and type "Howard" in the "Designation" field.

Bo

December 2004

Bo was just 6 weeks old when he was found left in a crate with his back leg dangling.  When our Friends of KCAC President saw him in his cage he immediately tried to get up to greet her.  Unfortunately his leg could not be saved but his life could!  The leg damage was too severe for repair so it was amputated.  Being young he will adapt easier and will have minimal limitations if any.  Bo was adopted and is loving his new home with his other canine sister.

Mason

December 2004

Mason suffered leg trauma from some unknown cause and as a result was unable to use her leg.  After X-rays it was determined that surgery was needed to repair the damage or she could risk the chance of losing her mobility.  Mason's surgery went very well and she has full recovered.  Mason is now living with her forever home and is looking forward to Santa's visit!

Hope

Update December 19, 2004

Hope settles into her new home just in time for the holidays!

Hope who we already knew was too sweet has been renamed "Honey" by her new family.  Honey still has a long recovery ahead of her but her new family is determined to give her all the love and care she needs.  If love is the best medicine she is well on her way to recovery thanks to everyone who sent their well wishes for her!

November 2004

Hope is a sweet dog that was picked up as a stray starving on the streets.

Friends of KCAC has taken care of getting her to a vet for a checkup and x-rays. It appears she just needs some rest, antibiotics and tender loving care. Hope is currently in foster care along with 3 kittens. Her foster mommy reports that when Hope saw the kitties she began a slow wag of her tail and now they share a water dish! Check back for updates on Hope.

Buster

Buster's hernia surgery

December 2003

Buster is a 5 month old Boxer mix puppy who is in need of a major surgery to repair a 5 inch umbilical hernia and a large Diaphragmatic Hernia.  Surgery is scheduled for Monday January 5.

UPDATE: 01-31-04

Buster found a home, and he is doing very well! Thank you to everyone with your thoughts, prayers and contributions.

UPDATE: 01-07-04

Buster's surgery was late on Monday and it was a success! He was a real sweetheart the entire time, it was as if he knew that we were all there to make him well again.

Buster arrived at the clinic around 3:00pm and was greeted with hugs from the entire staff at Lien Animal Clinic. He was even visited by King 5 news but unfortunately, the snow took priority over Buster's story so he didn't get to have his story aired on Monday.

Around 4:00pm Buster was prepped for surgery with the assistance of Lori, our own King County Vet Tech. He was such a good boy that he laid very still while the IV was placed in his arm and while he got his tummy and chest shaved. He then enjoyed some fresh oxygen to make sure he was ready for surgery time.

The surgery lasted a little over an hour and Buster was able to breathe on his own throughout the surgery, which is great news given the location of his lung in the hernia. The opening that had to be surgically closed was about the size of a baseball and you could actually see his little heart pumping away.

The surgeon who operated on Buster said everything went well and he appears to be in good shape. Buster is still in recovery and in the care of a vet tech 24 hours a day for the next couple of weeks. We are extremely thankful for all of your well wishes, thoughts and donations for Buster.

He is a very special and lucky pup because of all of you!

---

Thanks to all of you who heard Busters story and contributed towards his medical costs. We truly appreciate your generosity and the knowledge that the orphaned animals at the King County shelter will not be forgotten because of you.

Good Luck Buster!!! You are close in everyone's thoughts as you undergo this surgery to save your life.
